Good Morning Book Lovers!
Someone once described their ministry as being “an inch deep and a mile wide.” This man had such an impactful ministry that he could be forgiven for the “inch deep” part, even if it were true (which it wasn’t). But I have always believed that if we will work on the depth in our lives, God will take care of the breadth. The three key words are: Character, Conduct and Influence, in that order!
Today we have a number of really powerful titles from a genre that will take you deep: Christian World View/Apologetics–books that will equip you to both understand the shift that is happening is our world today provide you with tools to help you communicate the gospel to those around you. Here that are:
“Can Man Live Without God” by Ravi Zacharias. In this #1 Bestseller, a brilliant and compelling defense of the Christian faith, Ravi Zacharias shows how affirming the reality of God’s existence matters urgently in our everyday lives. According to Zacharias, how you answer the questions of God’s existence will impact your relationship with others, your commitment to integrity, your attitude toward morality, and your perception of truth.
“Escape from Reason” by Francis Schaeffer. In this modern classic, Francis A. Schaeffer traces trends in twentieth-century thought and unpacks how key ideas have shaped our society. Wide-ranging in his analysis, Schaeffer examines philosophy, science, art and popular culture to identify dualism, fragmentation and the decline of reason. Schaeffer’s work takes on a newfound relevance today in his prescient anticipation of the contemporary postmodern ethos. His critique demonstrates Christianity’s promise for a new century, one in as much need as ever of purpose and hope.
“So the Next Generation Will Know: Preparing Young Christians for a Challenging World” Sean McDowell, Ph.D., and Detective J. Warner Wallace, have written and taught extensively on the subjects of culture, worldview, and apologetics. In So the Next Generation Will Know, McDowell and Wallace provide strategies and practical tactics from their own personal experiences to help parents, youth leaders, and Christian teachers train the next generation with the truth of the Christian worldview.
“This may be the most important Christian book of the year! What’s more vital than understanding how to teach the truth of Christianity to the next generation? Let this book coach you in equipping the encouraging the Christian leaders of tomorrow. The obstacles are great, but the opportunities are greater still!” (Lee Strobel – Best-selling author of The Case for Christ and The Case for Faith)
A couple of great devotional reads we offer today are:
“Union with Christ: The Way to Know and Enjoy God” by Rankin Wilburn. Winner of the 2017 Christian Book Award for New Author and named one of the top books of 2016 by John Piper’s Desiring God ministry, this is one you will want to get for your library. Nothing is more practical for living the Christian life than union with Christ. The recovery of this reality provides the anchor and engine for your life with God—for your destiny is not only to see Christ, but to actually become like him.
“Spirituality of Gratitude: The Unexpected Blessings of Thankfulness” by Joshua Choonmin Kang. God invites us to enter into this world of thankfulness at every moment in our lives, even in the hard times―perhaps especially then. Pastor Kang continues: “Gratitude heals us and holds us, tethering us to one another, offering us joy and strength.”
As always, we have something for just about everyone today!
Happy Reading!
