Today’s list is brought to you without any advertisements. To be honest, those little cumbersome ads do generate a tiny bit of income for us and as a faith based missionary family, every little bit helps. 😉 In a couple of days my hubbie leaves to help lead a church plant team in the areas surrounding Oaxaca and San Luis Potosi, Mexico. In mid-October I am planning to serve in my capacity as a Chaplain with the Billy Graham Rapid Response Teams for a week or two in the areas that have been devastated by the recent Hurricanes and Flooding. The BGEA RRT Chaplains share the love and hope of the Lord Jesus as they serve alongside Samaritan’s Purse. I was in Parish, Louisiana last year and it was heartbreaking to see the devastation of the flooding and yet on the other hand, it was beautiful to see how communities rose up and helped one another. I still get teary eyed when I look through the photos. The stories and people linger in a special place within my heart.
Some important thoughts, if you have been affected by the Hurricane: know we are praying for you. Help is on the way. There should be a MARC or Multi-Agency Resource Center opening in a safe place within the areas affected by the storms. It is here you can find information, help etc. Usually the Red Cross, FEMA, Salvation Army, Samaritan’s Purse and other agencies will set up camp so to speak so that all the information that you need if you have been affected in a time of disaster is in one place. If you need help finding a MARC in your area, hit me up here on LifeVerse Books and I will do my best to look into it.
Finally, If you have not been affected but want to give or serve, please consider Samaritan’s Purse. They do a wonderful job and work with the local churches in the areas that have been hardest hit. Did you know that you can serve with SP as a volunteer? You can donate to local agencies but please be sure they they are REPUTABLE. I have found many trucks set up on the side of the road here near the border claiming to receive donations and they may very well be honest, but there are a lot of organizations that are not. Asking questions and doing a bit of research never hurt anyone.
