Woo hoo the weekend is almost here! On the last Friday of every month, I park myself down near the Rio Grande and administrate a ‘dispensa’ (food distribution) for needy children and families who live on both sides of the border. Many pastors and missionaries come and take the food in bulk. They then either cook it up to share in a ‘comedor’ (food kitchen) or distribute it ‘cruda’ (in small bags ready to be cooked). The food is in 50lb bags and they are heavy. Oftentimes the people who come to collect it are too frail to lift it. These times are hard, hot, rewarding work. I get dirty and dusty and my whole body will ache but on the flip side, my heart couldn’t be fuller. Sharing life with these precious people, listening to their stories, uplifts my spirit and reminds me that there is much to be grateful for.
After the work is all done, I hydrate my body and my spirit with a huge water and a good audio book. Right now I am listening to The Imitation of Christ by Thomas A’Kempis. It is a Christian Classic and such a wonderful book.
