I remember meeting a dear woman who had been imprisoned in China for many years because of her faith. We shared a meal together and as she carefully picked up every grain of rice with her chopsticks, she recounted her story of how she managed to keep her sanity during her imprisonment. She had memorized enormous portions of scripture and would recite them back to herself in her head. “God’s Word gave me hope.” That has never left me.
Throughout the years I am continually reminded of how blessed we are in this country. Many of us have more than one Bible and are able to purchase books, any book we desire, whenever we desire. This is a gift and one we should never take for granted.
