Good Morning Book Lovers and Students of Literature! Recently, I was studying statistics about how people aged 15 and up spend their leisure time on the weekend. I was flabbergasted to learn that people read approximately 17 minutes each day of the weekend and on holidays in contrast to watching nearly 200 minutes of TV*. Young people spend more time playing video games than reading according to statistics. Is it really a wonder why students struggle in school and test scores are rapidly falling? Is it a wonder why people have difficulty with sleep and depression? The benefits of reading just 20 minutes each day include better sleep, better memory, less depression and those are just to name a few. The most disturbing statistic details how children’s reading habits are failing. With the busy schedules that most families carry, bed-times stories and daily reading together times are becoming a thing of the past and it is affecting our young people. We can change this by becoming readers and sharing what we are reading with one another. Let’s influence others to grab a book and read.
