Seventy-two years ago tomorrow, the United States dropped an atomic bomb on the Japanese city of Hiroshima. A few days later, a second bomb was dropped on the city of Nagasaki,  resulting in the surrender of Japan to the US armed forces. “The Last Train From Hiroshima” is an account of these bombings and the people who were directly effected by them. Well researched and beautifully written, this book is historical biography at its best.

One of the truly remarkable  take-aways from this book for me was the stories that he highlights of the survivors, some who actually survived being on ground zero of both Hiroshima and Nagasaki at the time of the bombings. Some were Christians who gave glory to God for preserving them. I found this book to be both gripping and fascinating.

“Drawing on the voices of atomic bomb survivors and the new science of forensic archaeology, Charles Pellegrino describes the events and the aftermath of two days in August when nuclear devices, detonated over Japan, changed life on Earth forever.
To Hell and Back offers readers a stunning, “you are there” time capsule, wrapped in elegant prose. Charles Pellegrino’s scientific authority and close relationship with the A-bomb survivors make his account the most gripping and authoritative ever written.” (Amazon Review)
